BERKS COUNTY, Pa. – It can be as simple as giving someone something to sleep on at night.

“Since we started the bed program four to five years ago, we’ve donated over 600 brand-new beds, and the need is far greater than what we’ve already helped with,” said Marc Goldstein, founder of Blankets of Hope.

Nonprofit Blankets of Hope says needs like these are not being put to rest as it gets calls on an almost weekly basis.

“In Reading School District, we work with the social workers, because they’re the ones that identify if there’s a child sleeping on the floor, couch surfing, sharing a bed,” explained Goldstein.

And it’s not just kids. Veterans and single mothers who are dealing with domestic violence are now getting even more help.

“We put the grant together, and yesterday we received news that the money will be in our account, $25,000 dollars in our account, on Thursday,” said Goldstein. “And that will allow us to donate another 130-140 beds in Berks County.”

In addition to that, the organization is teaming up with the Sparks Foundation to offer kids an added educational gift.

“We decided through Marc’s program, where he gives out beds and blankets to youth and families in need, when they have kids in the house, we’re also going to double up on that and deliver STEM kits,” said Alec Reinert, executive director of the Sparks Foundation.

They’re also holding a corn hole tournament fundraiser at Sly Fox in Wyomissing on Sunday at 11 a.m.
